Femme Filmmakers Festival – Line-Up Announced

Following Netflix taking The Hurt Locker, City of God, and Una Noche from their streaming service recently, I was near-devastated that I could not include those movies directed by women in the upcoming online screening event – Femme Filmmakers Festival, running alongside the September 2016 #DirectedbyWomen Worldwide Film Viewing Party (click here). Finding movies for selection is easy, locating a purse-friendly bunch is a little more tricky. I don’t think $3.99 is a lot of money to pay to stream a movie online for such an event, but to expect others around the world to do it at any given time is perhaps an exercise in mass assumption.

All 10 films finally selected then are available on Netflix (in the U.S.) for absolutely free if you are a current subscriber. You are also welcome to check other suppliers like Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, Google Play, Vudu etc – or even your very own DVD collection. I can certainly dig deep to find the movies in other countries or platforms (or you can do it yourself of course). Should the Netflix links alter or become removed I will strive for alternatives (there are plenty to choose from).

In the mean time I hope you will join us in celebrating the passionate story-telling and artistic endeavor of these remarkable film-makers. The main scheduled screening for each film is relatively flexible, running Fridays, Saturday, Sundays – feel free to suggest your own films not selected here for weekdays. Watch the films in your own time that given day, gather others to join you, or initiate your own online group viewing. Please use the comments section below, or on the Facebook event pages (click here), or even on Twitter (click here) where there will no doubt be plenty of chatting using hashtag #FemmeFilmFest, or wherever you can find me, to show your interest, suggest times when you’re available, any ideas for the viewing experience – anything – as I would like to cater the screenings around you. I will publish a page for each of the 10 films here too, so flood the comments sections with your plans, your views on the film, or running commentary if you like.

Now, without further ado, the 10 movies screening online at the Femme Filmmakers Festival in accordance with the 2016 #DirectedbyWomen Worldwide Film Viewing Party are as follows (click each title for Netflix link – and bookmark):
